About This Work
Screenprints are made by blocking out areas of a silk screen and then
forcing ink through the clear areas onto paper; successive screens are
overlaid and different colours squeezed through the silk mesh to eventually
create images of great subtlety and vibrancy. This series of pieces by
Louise is based on the shapes and colours of the seashore; the foam of
the salt sea, the texture and form of the seashells and seaweed, the grain
of the sand. The techniques of screenprinting lend themselves well to
this subject matter and there is a suggestion within this detailed microcosm
of the planets and macrocosm of the skyscape.
