About This Work
'Stum' is taken from the 'Primary Colours' series, and
is a slang expression meaning 'to keep quiet'. The word is
written across the middle of the piece in dots, hard to trace in its silence.
Artist Background
Raymond is a painter, photographer and printmaker, currently working
with Belfast Print Workshop, where he has been a member of the board
for the past five years. He studied in England, graduating with both
an MA and BA in Painting, and since then has received numerous awards
from a variety of institutions including, The Arts Council of Northern
Ireland, British Council, and the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs.
His commissioned work is held by, most recently, the Royal Hospitals
in Belfast, South East Belfast Trust and Belfast City Council and he
has exhibited work throughout Europe, Africa and USA including Queens
University, Belfast; Ithaca Gallery, New York State; the Bag Factory
Johannesburg; the University of Cape Town and Free State University
Bloemfontein, South Africa; and the Cite Des Arte, Paris
